Our Process

At Copper Ridge Custom Homes, we know that elegant design is in the details. Construction is 75% planning and 25% construction. We’re here to help you express your individuality with a beautifully appointed new home, and will guide you throughout the process. Here’s a quick summary of the steps involved in making your Copper Ridge dream home come true.

Wish List

We will meet with you to review the home-building process and gather together the pictures and ideas you’ve been collecting. We will discuss styles of floor plans that suit your aesthetic and functional preferences. Things to think about during this phase are what rooms and sizes are most important to you? What features are paramount? What aspects of your current home do you like or dislike? Do you want to build an “age-in-place” home?

Site Selection

If you haven’t already acquired a building lot, we’ll help you select just the right site for your new home. We’ll help make the process as smooth as possible, from permits and survey, all the way to full site preparation, including drainage, utilities, and clearing. We’ll also develop a site master plan for future elements such as a pool, pole barn or additional buildings or site features.

Plans

During the planning phase, we will start with room layout and preliminary elevations. We will generate a pricing summary based on the lot and preliminary plans. We will help you choose your selections and create what each of your rooms will look like from the kitchen to the laundry room.  Once the major decisions have been made we will be able to finalize the contract specifications and price. We then enter into a construction agreement with you and send the package to your lender for financing.

Construction

Construction begins on approval of financing, with site excavation, utility setup, and supply delivery. During construction, you will have the opportunity to do walkthroughs with us during the rough-in, pre-trim and final stages. Additional meetings may be scheduled for electrical layout, tile orientation, and shoe and hardware installation, among others.

Once the foundation is set, framing begins. Next, we get to work on the shell, installing the siding and roofing. Plumbing and electrical are installed during this phase, and heating and air-conditioning systems will be “roughed-in”. Once the exterior and services are roughed in, we begin interior insulation and drywall. Carpentry, trim, and finishing follow.

Move-In Celebration

On closing day, we issue a Certificate of occupancy and give you a homeowner orientation of features and mechanical. It’s time to enjoy your one-of-a-kind custom Copper Ridge home.

We build fantastic homes anywhere in West Michigan.
